It’s been six months since the devastation of Hurricane Ian in Southwest Florida, and our community has been working tirelessly to rebuild Fort Myers Beach. Our Edison Beach House team is here to update you on what you need to know about traveling to Fort Myers Beach after hurricane Ian. We have recently covered the re-opening of our hotel and local restaurants on our Fort Myers Beach Travel Guide, and today we will be sharing a few things to keep in mind during your travels.
Things to Keep in Mind for Fort Myers Beach Travelers
Some Beaches are Closed & Amenities are Limited
Some of our beaches remain closed due to the impacts of Hurricane Ian. Bowditch Point Park and Crescent Beach Family Park are expected to re-open in May 2023. Lee County is investing over $25 million to help rebuild the beaches.
However, Lynn Hall Memorial Park is open and ready for travelers to soak up some sunshine! Keep in mind that some amenities like restroom facilities, piers, and walkovers may not be available when you visit.
Debris continues to wash onshore, and beach shoes should be worn at all times. Keep up to date with local beach conditions here.
Check What’s Open
One of the most critical parts of our recovery is getting money back into our local businesses. Support us as we rebuild and check what’s open in Fort Myers Beach before you book your stay. Currently, around 70% of accommodations in the Fort Myers Area are available for business, including Edison Beach House!
Be Flexible & Respectful
It’s essential to be flexible and respectful when it comes to visiting any destination after a natural disaster. Not all restaurants and activities will be open, so stay flexible and be prepared to change your plans on short notice.
Expect Continued Construction & Rebuilding
Many restaurants and accommodations are continuing to rebuild as they serve travelers, including Edison Beach House. Construction at the hotel will be continuous during business hours to work on repairing our elevator, office, pool, and downstairs restroom.
